Did You Know? There are nearly 20 Nobel Laureates that are or were GSA members at the time they received their prize. Among these Nobel Laureates, nearly half received their awards in the last decade and all of those recipients were members of GSA at the time they received their award. In Memoriam
Maria Ragland Davis, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Univ of Alabama, Huntsville
GSA member Maria Ragland Davis, PhD, a member of the fungal community, was one of three shooting victims at the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Friday, February 12, 2010. Dr. Davis was an associate professor in the Department of Biological Sciences. She taught courses in cell development and gene silencing in fungi. She ran a small but productive lab focused on functional genomics and post-harvest growth of the plant pathogenic fungus
Botrytis cinerea. The University held a memorial service on Friday, February 19, 2010. Funeral services for Dr. Davis were on Saturday, February 20, 2010.
