is accepting early reservations now until May 20. After that registration fees increase. Housing deadline is also May 20. Keynoter for this meeting is Joseph Culotti (Samuel Lunenfeld Res Ctr).

GSA’s new peer-reviewed, peer-edited, fully open-access Journal. With its debut publication set for next month, G3 will focus on data and experimental design, with article-level links to data for use in future analysis.

In memory of Victoria Finnerty, long-time GSA member and a dedicated Drosophila geneticist and teacher, the GSA has established The Victoria Finnerty Memorial Fund for Undergraduate Travel Awards. The Fund is now accepting donations for travel grants that will fund undergraduates engaged in research to attend GSA’s annual Drosophila Research Conference.
Congratulations to GSA members who received awards from the American Society of Microbiology (ASM). Recipients and these awards are: Leah Cowen (Univ of Toronto), Merck Irving S. Sigal Memorial Award; Susan Forsburg (USC), Roche Diagnostics Alice C. Evans Award; and, Susan Gottesman (NCI, NIH), Abbott-ASM Lifetime Achievement Award.

The NIGMS strategic plan for biomedical and behavioral research training,
Investing in the Future, is now available online. Read about NIGMS’ vision for biomedical and behavioral research training and how four key themes and actions associated with each theme help support a trainee in becoming a well-trained scientist.
NIH’s Center for Scientific Review (CSR) has a new advisory council to advise “the National Institutes of Health on the peer review of NIH grant applications in scientific review groups at CSR,” according to a press release from NIH. For more information on the Council, visit its website.
NIH has also recently established a “working group on the future biomedical research workforce.” This group, according to an NIH press release, “will recommend actions to the Advisory Committee to the Director to ensure a diverse and sustainable biomedical and behavioral research workforce.”
